Genetic Discovery About Flu is Announced

by Rhonda Dinn on April 10, 2012

ZZ6B0E3A43.jpgA genetic find could help explain why flu makes some people seriously ill or kills them, while others seem able to bat it away with little more than a few aches, coughs and sneezes.

In a study just published in the journal Nature, British and American researchers said they had discovered a human gene that influences how people respond to flu infections, making some people more susceptible than others.

The discovery helps explain why during the 2009/2010 pandemic caused by a novel strain of the H1N1 flu virus , the vast majority of people infected had only mild symptoms, while others

Flu Season is Just Now Starting

by Rhonda Dinn on March 28, 2012

It may come as a complete surprise to most of us, but contrary to popular opinion, the 2011-2012 flu season isn

The good news is that Spring is almost officially here. The official date is March 20, but many parts of the country are already experiencing an early seasonal change. While most of us welcome warmer temperatures and breezy, sunny skies, the mild winter that is ending has meant that that the upcoming 2012 allergy season will be really awful for sufferers.

So, what does that have to do with us? Well, for millions of Americans, it means a lot of sneezing, drippy noses, runny eyes, and coughing and choking from the additional pollens and dusts that are out there. Mold, blooming trees and plants, and then blustery winds will all contribute to the time of year that can become the best of times and the worst of times. It also means that now is a great time to convert to touchfree fixtures for your business, company, or even home to help keep the germs at bay and to have a healthier, and more sanitary, bathroom area.

ZZ7CD5AB25.jpgTouchfree fixtures in restrooms are becoming a must have for more and more consumers, as they simply are choosing not to frequent places where they have to have physical contact with publicly-used fixtures and subject themselves to increased risks of germs and diseases. While allergies are not to be considered contagious, the strong, often unexpected sneezes and nose blowing, is still not something that needs to be shared. And many of us end up with colds and infections from climate changes, and those can be spread from one person to the next.

At Touchfree Concepts, we pride ourselves of being leaders in automatic restroom and bathroom supplies. We carefully choose the products we feature and sell to you; rather than selling anything that is in the marketplace, we first make sure we are confident about the quality and workmanship of a product. We also familiarize with the products we sell so we can help you from the selection through installation and upkeep.

With 24 warehouses around the nation, we are able to ship our orders within 1-3 business days so that you can update your restroom to an automated, luxury style with vastly improved sanitation

Bathroom Sanitation Can Make or Break Your Business

by Rhonda Dinn on February 22, 2012

Whoever would have thought a bathroom could have a determining factor on whether a person becomes your customer? Except for the rare out-of-the-way bathroom at a run-down gas station somewhere, most business owners are becoming increasingly savvy about the importance of a clean and sanitary bathroom for employees and customers alike.

Customers may very well form a lasting opinion about your business from the impressions they have of your restrooms. Having clean and sanitary bathrooms makes an overall good impression, helps to prevent the spread of germs and diseases, and serves as a confidence booster about the professionalism of your business. In other words, having pride in your business workplace and keeping a clean bathroom suggests that you have the same strong sense of standards in how your business operates overall!

Statins May Lower Flu Mortality Rates of the Flu

by Rhonda Dinn on January 11, 2012

A report published by The Journal of Infectious Diseases says that statins, better known as cholesterol lowering medications, may help to lower the number of deaths among individuals who are hospitalized with influenza.

William Schaffner, M.D., professor and chair of Preventive Medicine at Vanderbilt University, SAYS that the observational study is the first to assess the association between the use of these drugs and death in individuals hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infection.

ZZ4C5FA53C.jpgA third of the 3,043 patients hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed influenza received statins, either before hospitalization or during. After adjusting for several factors, they discovered that individuals who did not receive the medication were nearly two times as likely to die from flu compared to patients who received statins. ??According to estimates from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 5-20 percent of individuals in the U.S. are infected with influenza each year, and over 20,000 people are hospitalized for complications related to influenza. Getting the flu vaccine each year, combined with proper hand washing techniques, are still the optimal defenses against influenza.
